Attraction: The trap emits UV light, which is highly attractive to many flying insects, including mosquitoes, flies, moths, and beetles. The light is usually in the range of 365 to 400 nanometers, as this wavelength is most effective in attracting insects.
Trapping mechanism: Insects are drawn towards the UV light source and approach the trap. Some traps use a combination of UV light and additional attractants like pheromones or carbon dioxide to enhance their effectiveness.
Electric grid or adhesive surface: Once the insects come close to the trap, they may encounter an electric grid or an adhesive surface. In electric grid traps, the insects get electrocuted upon contact with the charged grid, while adhesive traps have sticky surfaces that capture the insects upon landing.
Collection and disposal: Depending on the design, the trapped insects may fall into a collection tray at the bottom of the trap or stick to an adhesive surface. The collection tray or adhesive surface can be removed for easy disposal of dead insects.
